Warrington Wolves have honoured local hero Luke Littler by announcing they have renamed their stadium after the darts star for their Super League season opener.

Littler, a Warrington native and lifelong fan of the Wolves – who were knocked out in semis last season by a tough Hull KR side – will take great pride in the newly christened Luke Littler Stadium.

The 18-year-old darting sensation is being celebrated after winning the PDC World Darts Championship last month, where he beat Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final to become the youngest-ever world champion.

Ahead of the new Super League season kicking off this month, Littler will be paraded around the pitch when Warrington face off against Catalans Dragons on February 21, where ‘The Nuke’ will also showcase the Sid Waddell trophy to the fans at half-time.

Reacted to the news, Littler said: “It’s a dream come true that the club I’ve been a fan of since I was young has decided to name the stadium after me for a night! It’s an absolute honour and I can’t thank the club enough.”

Warrington’s CEO Karl Fitzpatrick added: “Luke’s achievements on the world stage have been nothing short of incredible, and we are immensely proud to celebrate his success with this special homecoming.

“He’s a true Warrington fan, and therefore renaming our stadium in his honour for our home opener is a fitting tribute. We invite the whole town to join us on February 21st and make it a night to remember. A big thank you to Halliwell Jones and Warrington Borough Council for their support in making this happen.”

Warrington are hoping that the move will draw more attention to the club, with Littler also having a hand in unveiling their new kit. “This idea came about from one of your colleagues, Brian Carney, as we discussed how we could recognise Luke’s incredible homecoming of the World Championships,” Fitzpatrick shared with Sky Sports News.

“The Halliwell Jones Stadium, for one night only on the 21st of February when we play Catalans Dragons, is going to be known as the Luke Littler Stadium. Luke Litter has been a season ticket holder for many years and even took part in the vacuum half-time challenge in 2024 before his rapid rise to fame.

“He was much better at darts than he was throwing balls through a hoop. But he’s been a season ticket holder for many years, we asked him if he’d be up for this activation and he jumped at it. He’s as excited about it as we are.

“He’ll put the limelight on the rugby. The feedback we’ve had with anything we’ve done with Luke has been incredible. He launched our new kit and we’ve had record sales. He’s a genuine fan and he’s going to put this spotlight on this fantastic club once again.”
