Luke Shaw in brutal harm setback as Ruben Amorim given new Man Utd return date
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has suffered a setback while recovering from his latest injury and is set to miss at least four weeks for Ruben Amorim‘s side.
Left-back Shaw, 29, has had his Old Trafford career blighted with injuries and this latest delay to his return comes from an injury which left him ‘devastated’ back in December.
United signed another left-back, Patrick Dorgu, from Italian side Lecce on transfer deadline day for an initial £25million, to try to bolster their options.
Shaw has played just three times for United this season, and his last game for the Red Devils in the 2023-24 campaign was in mid-February with hamstring and calf issues causing his absence.
He did manage to play a small part in England’s run to the European Championship final last summer, prompting hope at Old Trafford that he would be able to sustain a spot in the side this term.

But it took until Amorim’s first game in charge of United at Ipswich in November for Shaw to make his first appearance of this season. He also played in the two following matches as United got off to a strong start under their new boss.
But a few days after the third of those appearances, Shaw took to Instagram to announce a ‘small setback’.
He said at the time: “I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forwards, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.”
Having returned to first-team training just last week, there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel for Shaw in what would have been a big boost for Amorim given United’s recent struggles. But this latest setback will be painful for the former Southampton star, especially with new boy Dorgu now on the scene.
