Ryan Giggs’ brother claims he cashed in £1m from star’s infamous fling along with his spouse
In 2011, then-married Ryan, 51, who scored 114 goals in a glittering 24-year career at United, went to court to try and stop an affair with model and Big Brother star Imogen Thomas becoming public knowledge
Rhodri Giggs says he made £1m from his footballer brother Ryan’s notorious fling with his wife.
He described dealing with the betrayal as an ‘excellent experience’ which he found ‘character building’. Rhodri, 47, said he was now in a happy relationship with a new partner with whom he has two children.
He told a troll who tried to bait him about his ex’s eight-year fling with Ryan on X: “Mate, it was over 14 yrs ago and I’ve got 2 kids with someone else and made s*** load of money from it.
“Excellent experience. I called It character building. I made a million quid from it. I buzz of (off) it. It was literally 14 years ago and I made about 1 million from it.’’
The troll caved in messaging: “I’m in my place.’’
Rhodri, a former football coach who now runs a podcast and works in recruitment, replied: “That’s just banter pal. I’m a grown man, shot like that doesn’t bother me one bit. “Can’t be on X and not expect a little bit of shrapnel coming your way. All part of the fun pls.’
The scandal blew up in 2011 when then-married Ryan, 51, who scored 114 goals in a glittering 24-year career at United, went to court to try and stop an affair with model and Big Brother star Imogen Thomas becoming public knowledge.
He secured a so-called super injunction which prevented the media from naming him as the footballer at the centre of a love-triangle.
But within hours thousands of Twitter users tweeted Giggs’ name which was eventually read out in Parliament by then-Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming.
Natasha then admitted she too had been having an affair with brother-in-law Ryan behind the backs of his then-wife Stacey and her husband Rhodri.
The affair split the family apart. Ryan apologised to his brother saying he ‘wasn’t thinking’. But Rhodri dismissed it as just hollow words and in December (2024) admitted they still do not speak.
In 2012 Natasha went on to Celebrity Big Brother where she openly talked about the scandal with her fellow housemates. She left Rhodri and – though the two later tried to reconcile – they divorced in 2013. Both have gone on to find new love.
Natasha, now 41, told Closer magazine she had felt guilty about the secret fling and was ‘no victim’.
“The affair kept going because I was bored and it was so exciting,’’ she said.
“I’d have my mundane life at home – the cooking, washing and ironing – but know that I had my own special relationship with this celebrity footballer adored by millions.
“I learnt to live with the guilt and I got very good at lying. I was leading a double life. I do think it’s possible to have feelings for two people at the same time.’’
Ryan and Stacey’s 10-year marriage ended in a £40m divorce settlement in 2017.
