Alan Brazil branded ‘dinosaur’ after claiming ‘no person cares’ in ladies’s soccer rant
Alan Brazil has been criticised for his comments on women’s football after claiming that ‘nobody cares’ about the Manchester United Women’s team on Thursday morning
Alan Brazil has been branded a “proper dinosaur” for his comments on talkSPORT dismissing the significance of women’s football, claiming fans ‘aren’t bothered’ by it.
The 65-year-old ex-Scotland player launched into a fiery rant on Thursday morning while discussing what Manchester United need to do to reclaim their place at the pinnacle of English football.
Studio guest Shebahn Aherne suggested that one aim should be to enhance the trophy-winning prowess of United’s women’s team.
However, Brazil was not impressed with this idea, responding: “With the greatest respect, when you talk about Manchester United.
“Women’s football is getting more important now but when you talk about Manchester United, this is the men’s we’re talking about, the Premier League when we’re talking about mission impossible, not the women’s.”
After being challenged with the assertion that fans do care, he doubled down: “It isn’t. I’m sorry, people around the world are not bothered. It is true. They’re not [bothered]. Within the bigger picture, they’re not.
“No, the bigger picture is fans want to see Manchester United in the Premier League challenging. That’s the bigger picture. It’s not that important compared to the bigger picture. I’m not going to sit here and lie because it’s not.”
Co-presenter Gabby Agbonlahor was stunned during the conversation as Aherne snapped back at Brazil, asserting: “Al, stop being like that. You sound like a proper dinosaur this morning. I don’t know why you’re being like that,” which saw Brazil retort: “You’re kidding yourself on.”
“That’s unbelievable from you,” Aherne fired back, reminding him sharply, “You’re the one with the granddaughter playing football, listen to yourself. Right now that’s important.”
Ruben Amorim’s side are languishing in 13th place with as many points between them and the relegation zone as the Europa League places. Meanwhile, United’s Women’s team are 2nd in the Women’s Super League with just one defeat all season.
