Super Bowl reporter, 27, dies simply months after spouse dies in tragic automobile crash
Reporter Adan Manzano has died at the age of 27 in New Orleans as he covered this weekend’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles
Adan Manzano, a sports journalist covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans, has tragically passed away at the age of 27 while covering the highly anticipated game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
Manzano’s untimely death comes just months after his wife’s passing in April due to a car accident in Topeka, leaving behind their one young child.
As a reporter for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, Manzano was scheduled to anchor and report on the Super Bowl, but his life was cut short on Wednesday. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is currently underway.
Telemundo’s local affiliate released a statement expressing their sadness and shock at Manzano’s passing, saying, “We are saddened to share that Adan Manzano passed away yesterday in New Orleans, while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl for both Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports.
“We are cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate this tragic event. As KGKC’s sports anchor and reporter, Adan was a true professional and a rising star, who exemplified excellence in his work.
“We will deeply miss his passion for sports and the contributions he made to the local community. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Manzano hailed from Mexico City but after moving to Topeka in 2018, he earned his degree from Kansas State University. He joined the Chiefs Television Crew as a sideline reporter at the start of the 2024 season.
Sharing the sport with Spanish speakers was one of the anchor’s burning passions. “Because the Hispanic and Latinos – they’ve supported soccer culturally and historically, but there’s always a space where football can be the favorite sport,” he shared with 27 News.
“That’s why I think it’s important.”
Manzano made his mark in the broadcast booth in 2023 and by 2024 when he was reporting from the sidelines at the Super Bowl.
“I used to dream about this but I never expected that it was going to come that soon,” he reflected on his rapid rise. “It’s just a blessing.”
