Car flips onto practice tracks in horror crash as main UK rail traces compelled to shut
Traffic chaos endures this morning (Friday) as multiple train line services to Manchester Airport have been halted due to a horror crash as car flipped onto the tracks
A car has flipped on to a train line causing widespread rush hour chaos this morning. The vehicle reportedly collided with a roundabout at Regent Road in Salford before landing on the track.
All services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport have been halted, as well as all railway lines between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester. A GMP Traffic spokesperson wrote on X: “Regent Rd Roundabout, Salford. Please expect some delays this morning while remedial works are carried out following a 1 vehicle collision.
“There will also be disruption to the rail network as the car has landed on the train tracks. Driver arrested for positive breath sample.”
The driver has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Traffic continues to cause delays at Regent Road roundabout, off the M602, this morning.
A National Rail spokesperson added: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Newton-le-Willows / Wigan North Western and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Victoria all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or diverted. Disruption is expected until 13:00.”
According to the Liverpool ECHO, the main lines affected include Northern services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport, Wigan North Western and Manchester Victoria, as well as Chester and Leeds / Manchester Victoria.
Additionally, TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Hull / Manchester Victoria / Newcastle, along with routes from Lancaster to Manchester Airport, are impacted.
Transport for Wales services between Chester / Llandudno and Manchester Airport / Manchester Oxford Road, plus those between Holyhead and Manchester Airport, are also disrupted.
These disruptions are continuing to cause widespread travel issues for commuters across the region.
