Luke Littler threatens to sue over plans for ‘Nukes Sports Bar’ in darts ace’s hometown
Luke Littler is threatening legal action after a darts-themed venue in his hometown of Warrington, owned by a 32-year-old dad, intended to use his trademarked nickname
Teen darts ace Luke Littler is threatening to sue a bar in his hometown called ‘Nukes Sports Bar’.
The venue, named after the Runcorn born star, is preparing to open in Warrington this month. And it isn’t just the name that takes inspiration from the 18-year-old world champion.
It was planned that staff at the bar would wear outfits that are a reflection of the tops worn by Littler himself – a purple polo shirt with yellow logos – featuring the nickname that Littler is iconic for, ‘The Nuke.’
However, Littler trademarked that nickname last year after his sudden rise to fame thanks to his breakout tournament at Alexandra Palace in late 2023 and early 2024.
Now, the owner of the bar, Owen Williams, has been hit with a letter sent by Littler’s lawyers. Williams’ plans to sell pints for as cheap as £2.40 will have to be put on hold while he handles the issues handed to him in the letter.
The name, Nukes Sports Bar, wasn’t directly chosen by Williams. He ran a social media poll where followers chose the name for the darts-themed venue – but this now appears to have backfired.
Williams, 32, is pleading Littler to take a look at the situation and take a chance to change the minds of his lawyers. The Facebook account for the bar posted on their page saying: “We are sure this isn’t Luke himself and he would be proud to have a bar recognising his achievements.
“Lets tag him and see if we can stop the little man being crushed! Pray for the little man. Unfortunately we may have to change our name before it’s even begun!”
However, Williams may struggle to reach to Littler at the moment, as the teenager is busy with playing commitments in Premier League Darts. He lost on Thursday night 6-5 to Michael van Gerwen, in a repeat of the World Championship final last month, when he emerged victorious.
