Ex-Man Utd boss branded ‘scum’ by World Cup icon after what he stated to his spouse
Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal and Hristo Stoichkov didn’t have the best relationship – and that was best summed up him on a one word quip from the Bulgarian
Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was once branded as “scum” by a World Cup icon.
Hristo Stoichkov, who turned out for Bulgaria, played under the Dutchman when they both pitched up in Barcelona. Stoichkov was once one of the best strikers in Europe – but he didn’t get a game under Van Gaal.
“I have no respect for him – he’s scum,” Stoichkov told L’Equipe in a bombshell interview. “One day, when I was injured, I was with my wife at Camp Nou and Van Gaal went up to her.
“He asked her how it was possible that she married someone like me. She responded that I was a Ballon d’Or winner. My departure in 1998 was the fault of Van Gaal, for sure.”
In a separate interview, Stoichkov further unloaded on Van Gaal when speaking about Pedro – who was on the move to either United or Chelsea: “I would never be under the orders of Louis van Gaal.
“He’s mediocre. He destroyed Barca and is destroying Manchester United. With what he has done to Valdes he has shown he is a bad person.
“Hopefully Pedro listens to me and doesn’t leave.”
Stoichkov, who turned 59 on Saturday, is best remembered for his time two stints at Barcelona – playing for Parma in between his stints.
He also played for CSKA Sofia in his homeland and went to Al-Nassr before it was cool.
The Bulgarian also played for Chicago Fire and DC United over in the states.
