Leeds United and Millwall have condemned the alleged tragedy chanting heard during their FA Cup tie on Saturday.

The Whites statement shared on social media addressed the reported vile chanting during the game: “During today’s FA Cup fourth round tie, we were extremely disappointed to hear vile chants relating to football tragedies. We will work with the police and Millwall Football Club to identify those involved.”

Millwall also made a statement, asserting, “We all have a duty to ensure Millwall Football Club is represented proudly and responsibly at all times.

“The club strongly condemns all forms of football tragedy abuse and is appalled to receive reports of such chanting from a minority at today’s Emirates FA Cup fixture against Leeds United.

“Both clubs have suffered tragic losses to their respective families in recent history. Chanting about this is entirely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the club or the governing bodies.

“It has no place in football and the club will work closely with Leeds United and authorities to identify those responsible.”

Despite Leeds topping the Championship table and Millwall trailing by over 20 points, it was the visitors who triumphed at Elland Road to reach the fifth round. Femi Azeez was the hero of the day, netting two goals to seal a 2-0 win for Millwall.

Pascal Struijk’s second-half penalty was saved as the hosts struggled to get back into the game. Millwall became the first Championship side to secure their spot in the fifth round, joining Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke shuffled his squad from the one that triumphed over Coventry in their previous league match. Following their defeat to Millwall, they will switch their focus solely on the league and a return to the top-flight.

“I was so engrossed in the game,” Farke admitted during his post-match press conference when questioned about fan behaviour. “We’re familiar with this saying – football is more than life or death – it’s a ridiculous statement.”

“Life always takes precedence over a mere football match. The entire community supports this principle. This is a value that I and the club uphold. If anyone met those standards today – I didn’t hear about it – but they should investigate this situation.”

Millwall’s victory contributed to their recent revival under Alex Neil. The Scot had to wait for his first win after assuming managerial duties in late December, but Saturday’s cup triumph followed three consecutive league wins, lifting the team into mid-table.

Neil’s squad will return to league action on Wednesday, making the trip to Plymouth. Leeds will also hit the road for their next league match, taking on Watford on Tuesday.
