HSBC is DOWN: Banking app and on-line banking crashes – leaving 1000’s of annoyed clients unable to entry cost providers
It is one of the most popular banking services in the UK, but it now appears that HSBC has gone down.

The issue appears to be affecting both online banking and mobile banking services with some customers also reporting issues with their online login.
By 15:45, the issue had led to more than 1,700 outage reports.
A HSBC spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We’re really sorry that some services are currently unavailable in online and mobile banking.
‘We understand this is frustrating, and our teams are investigating the issue.’

After reaching its peak shortly before 16:00, the number of reported issues on Down Detector has steadily fallen.
As of 16:45, just over an hour after issues first began, the number of reports had reached just 245.
Of the affected customers, 46 per cent said they were having issues with mobile banking, 42 per cent reported issues with online banking, and a further 12 per cent reported issues with their online login.
With more than 34 million digitally active users, HSCB’s online banking services are among some of the most widely used in the country.
Even with only a fraction of customers affected, this outage has left thousands of users unable to send money or access their online accounts.
In a statement posted to X, HSBC wrote: ‘We’re working hard to fix an intermittent issue with Mobile and Online Banking services.
‘Debit and credit cards, digital wallet and ATMs are all working. You can still authorise online card purchases via SMS. We’re really sorry, please check back for updates.’
One commenter wrote on X: ‘@HSBC_UK Trying to log on to online banking. Not getting beyond enter your username. Trying mobile app – service not available.’

Another added: ‘Disgusting that the mobile banking app is down.’
This outage comes less than a month after HSBC’s last online banking outage which lasted over an hour.
At 15:32 on January 17, HSBC revealed that customers were unable to make payments via mobile or online banking.
The issue was resolved by 16:30 that afternoon but HSBC did not confirm what had caused the problem.
Unlike telecom companies, banks aren’t required to reimburse you when there has been a drop in services.
However, if you have incurred any costs as a direct result of the outage you might be able to get your money back.
For example, if you were unable to pay your bills you might be able to claim back any fines you receive.
If you do encounter issues, it’s worth keeping a careful record of what happens including any representative from the bank you speak to.

You should then be able to make a formal complaint via the Barclays website.
If you’re unhappy with how the bank handles your case you can choose to escalate the issue to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
This independent body will consider the evidence you prevent and make a decision regarding your claim.
If you do lose any money due to this outage the Ombudsman could intervene on your behalf to force the bank to pay you back.
However, there is no guarantee of getting back any money you lose.
