Celebrity relationship professional Paul Brunson insists intercourse DOESN’T make you any happier in a relationship as he shares his good present selection forward of Valentine’s Day
Relationship expert Paul Brunson has brought an end to one of love’s biggest myths and insisted that sex doesn’t make couples any happier when they’re in a relationship.
The Married At First Sight guru, 50, offered his thoughts on some of the biggest assumptions around love ahead of Valentine’s Day on Friday.
Speaking on the Heart Radio Breakfast show, Paul, who is also an expert on Celebs Go Dating, told Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden: ‘So another one – this is a fun one – is that the more sex you have, the happier you are.’
Jamie quipped: ‘What would you say if I said is that a myth or a fact? The more sex you have, the happier you are.’
Poking fun at her co-host, Amanda said: ‘You’re asking the wrong person!’ while Jamie added: ‘Don’t forget, I’ve been married nearly 20 years. Well, I say, not necessarily.’
Paul then said: ‘So the whole idea here is that we think, yes, if you average more than once a week, you’re happier. But no. The point is that it’s all about emotional connection.

‘The safer you feel with your partner, the more satisfying sex you have. So, the point here is that you shouldn’t focus on frequency.
‘When you focus on frequency, you will then be disgruntled, disappointed, because you’ll say, ”We’re not having sex once a week, so therefore we’re not a great couple.” Instead, do you feel safe and connected with your partner?’
Asked whether he’d already purchased a Valentine’s Day gift for his wife Jill, who he married in 2000, Paul revealed: ‘No, no, I surprised her. Her favourite artist in the world. We went to a lecture, and she met her favourite [visual] artist.’
Jamie asked whether he’d ‘arranged’ the surprise or if it had been ‘pure luck,’ and Paul revealed: ‘Oh no, I plotted that. See, I think the best gifts take effort.
‘You know, you have to listen to what your partner what their interests are, what their passions are, and deliver on that. It doesn’t mean that it’s a lot of money that you spend, but you should spend your time one hundred per cent.’
While Paul is best known to viewers an expert on both Married At First Sight UK and Celebs Go Dating, he’s also made headlines with his in-depth interviews with stars on his podcast We Need To Talk.
Stars including Maura Higgins, Pete Wicks and Megan Barton Hanson have opened up about their struggles in the long-form show.
In a recent interview with The Mirror, Paul also shared insight into his date nights with his wife Jill. The couple have two sons, Liam and Kingston.

He said: ‘I mean, we’re all over the place, doing everything.
‘When I say everything, it could be as basic as hopping on the bus – that could end up becoming a date because what we’ll do is ride the whole line, get off at certain stops, take pictures, make it a photo-taking competition, send it to our niece, she’ll judge to see who has the best photo.
‘Or we could decide to fly to Romania this weekend and go to Vlad Tepes’ Castle and explore the history there. It’s the full range.
‘That’s the beauty of having a great partner that you enjoy spending time with – you just want to explore the world with that person.’
