FA subject assertion as Arne Slot, Liverpool and Everton cost for derby brawl
Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff have both been charged by the Football Association following the chaos that marred the Merseyside derby
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, assistant Sipke Hulshoff, and both Liverpool and Everton have been hit with a disciplinary charge by the FA.
Slot was dismissed after a pitch-side altercation with referee Michael Oliver at the end of the contentious 2-2 Premier League draw at Goodison Park.
The official noted the incident in his match report, along with the post-match pandemonium that also resulted in the dismissal of Sipke Hulshoff, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Doucoure provoked the away fans after the Blues secured a draw thanks to James Tarkowski’s equaliser in the 98th minute, which led to Jones’ reaction and a subsequent brawl involving players from both teams, as well as police and stewards.
The FA has now taken action, with both clubs, Slot, and Hulshoff facing charges, and they have until next Wednesday to respond. This means Slot and Hulshoff are permitted to be in the dugout for Liverpool’s Premier League match against Wolves on Sunday.
Slot, who is also accused of confronting an assistant referee post-match, could face a longer touchline ban having already served a one-game suspension in December for receiving three bookings. Hulshoff has been charged for both his red card and his reaction to being sent off.
Everton and Liverpool could be looking at fines if they’re busted for bad behaviour. Both Newcastle United and Aston Villa coughed up £20,000 and £30,000 respectively after a Boxing Day bust-up in the tunnel caught them out before, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The FA dropped a bombshell statement saying: “Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff have been charged following the Premier League fixture between the clubs on Wednesday, 12 February.
“It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle.
“The Liverpool manager allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.
“It is alleged that Liverpool’s assistant manager acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official, which led to his dismissal.
“It is further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official after being sent off.
“Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff have until next Wednesday, 19 February, to provide their respective responses.”
