Gene Allen useless at 63: What’s Love Got To Do With It? actor passes ‘instantly’ at residence leaving household in ‘shock’

Rapper and Hollywood movie star Gene Allen has died at the age of 63.

The star, whose middle name was ‘Groove,’ passed away suddenly at home, leaving his family in shock, it has been claimed.

The family also told TMZ that Gene died on Wednesday. 

Gene appeared in a number of movies like the 1990 comedy House Party and its sequel, as well as the 1993 Tina Turner film What’s Love Got to Do With It? starring Angelina Bassett.

And he played a ‘street photographer’ in the 1992 movie Boomerang with Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens and Halle Berry

His last Instagram post was from four days ago where he was seen singing with a microphone at a party and saying, ‘I aint playin’.’

Allen – who also went by the name Eugene Allen – was also part of a Hip-Hop group from the 1980s known as Groove B. Chill, with Darryl ‘Chill’ Mitchell.

He has been called a ‘hip hop pioneer’ who got his start in the Bronx.

Allen was bus putting the finishing details on an EP titled Bring Back The Party. 

And Gene had a gig on February 15 that he promoted on Instagram with the tag: ‘2025 coming in hot.’

His birthday was just a few days away on February 26. 

Eric B. paid tribute to Gene on Instagram.

‘Got a call from my brother Chill that his brother Groove passed away. 

‘Dam rest in peace brother Groove we will continue to celebrate your life let the house party continue on thanks for the great music and movie moments,’ Eric B said.

DJ Premier also shared a note: ‘My condolences. 

‘Loved their music on Uptown and his character in House Party as the drunk.’
