The huge fire that broke out at London’s famous Chiltern Firehouse hotel has been contained and it has been reported that all guests and staff were safely evacuated with no injuries
A huge fire that broke out on Friday in London’s iconic Chiltern Firehouse hotel has been contained and there are no injuries known of as of yet.
The posh hotel, loved amongst celebs and royals, was up in flames after a fire started in the duction which led from the ground floor right up to the roof. Around 100 people were evacuated and 125 firefighters were at the scene.
Now, the London Fire Brigade has released the following statement: “Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters have been tackling a fire at a hotel on Chiltern Street in Marylebone.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control officers were first called at 1452 and deployed fire crews from Euston, Soho, Paddington, West Hampstead, Kensington, Chelsea, and surrounding fire stations.
“The incident was under control by 20:07.
“Crews worked hard over a number of hours in challenging circumstances in a complex historic building and successfully contained the fire to one property, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the night damping down hotspots.
“The fire started in ducting and spread from the ground floor to the roof of the four-storey hotel with a restaurant on the ground floor. The blaze spread to the second and third floors of the building. Around one hundred people evacuated the building before the Brigade arrived, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
Earlier in the evening, pictures emerged on social media of the historic building as dark grey smoke plumed from the windows.
The venue, which is frequented by countless A-listers such as Tom Cruise, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, was due to host Netflix’s BAFTA Awards after-party on Sunday. However it is now highly unlikely that will happen. One firefighter said that the place will need a “large refurbishment”.
The owner of the hotel, Andre Balazs, has said: “We are grateful to confirm that no one was hurt and all our guests and staff safely evacuated.”
