Lawrence Dallaglio’s mother-in-law speaks on declare affair with greatest pal led to divorce
Former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio and his wife Alice Corbett are to divorce after 20 years of marriage, with his mother-in-law addressing claims of cheating
Lawrence Dallaglio‘s mother-in-law has robustly refuted suggestions that his marriage with wife Alice Corbett crumbled due to an alleged affair with a close friend.
Dallaglio, the rugby union icon, and his wife Alice have been confirmed to be parting ways after two decades together, amid reports of enduring numerous crises following accusations of infidelity from both parties.
The Sun claimed that a well-placed source revealed about their separation this week, adding: “They have been together a very long time and weathered a number of storms. It is sad as they must have decided it is best now to go their separate ways.”
The couple made an appearance at the Central Family Court in Holborn this week, seeking to settle terms for the dissolution of their marriage.
After almost a decade-long romance, the ex-England skipper wed the former model in 2005, and together they’ve raised three children – daughters Ellie, Josie and their son Enzo, reports the Mirror.
Merely two years before they exchanged vows, there were rumours suggesting that Corbett had an affair with Dallaglio’s pal Leon Butler, though they later reconciled. Dismissing these claims, Lydia, Dallaglio’s mother-in-law, told the Daily Mail they were “wrong”.
She disclosed her own feelings about the breakup: “I’m very sad about it. People marry and they divorce, I’ve been divorced twice so I know what it’s like. It’s horrible, it’s painful for the heart and it’s not fair. He did very well, I loved him, but he’s going through a bad phase and we hope he’s all right.”
Scandal strikes again as reports have surfaced about Corbett’s affair, a mere six years after Dallaglio faced the loss of his England captaincy due to claims of spending £10,000 at a London brothel and engaging in cocaine and ecstasy use.
Another insider previously confided to the website: “It seems that their relationship and marriage never really totally got over Alice’s fling. They obviously hoped they could put it all behind them but it was something they could not completely forget.
“It is a great shame because they were happy together for many years, and it’s not to say that Lawrence’s own behaviour and shortcomings might have contributed to things going wrong as well.”
Dallaglio holds an impressive sporting legacy as part of the England squad victorious in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and boasting 85 caps for his country. His club career includes 326 appearances for Wasps, earning five Premiership titles.
