Eight people, including two small children, have been rushed to the hospital after a teenage driver, allegedly performing burnouts, lost control and crashed into a parked car in the Hunter Valley.
Police were called to Bromage Road, Abermain, around 12.05am on Sunday following reports of a crash during an illegal street racing gathering.
A P-plater in a Subaru Liberty was allegedly performing a burnout in front of a crowd when the vehicle lost control, collided with a parked vehicle, and struck several onlookers.
The driver, an 18-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for further assessment, where he remains under police guard.
Two children, aged five and six, were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Five adults were also injured and were taken to hospital for further treatment.
Witnesses reported that the driver of a Subaru sedan, allegedly travelling at around 100km/h, attempted a high-speed handbrake turn but lost control.
A crime scene has been established and the Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
