Hospital was ‘put into lockdown’ after group ambushed A&E division after boy, 16, was stabbed

A hospital in Birmingham was put on ‘lockdown’ after a group ‘ambushed’ an A&E department following a stabbing on a city street.

A witness claimed the group ‘ambushed’ the emergency department at Heartlands Hospital.

Rumours had spread on social media an ambulance was also raided with a patient inside, but police officers, ambulance and hospital staff have all confirmed this is untrue.

Yesterday a 16-year-old was stabbed on Pretoria Road in Bordesley Green at around 3.30pm.

West Midlands Police said it is probing disorder at a Birmingham hospital, which is thought to be linked to the stabbing. 

An eye-witness at the hospital claims she saw a group of about 30 to 40 people who ‘ambushed’ the hospital’s A&E.

A peace vigil was held in Bordesley Green today where members of community attending in order to condemn knife crime.

She said: ‘Heartlands Hospital was in lockdown. As I went to leave they told me I couldn’t. Security and police on every door.’

In a statement, a police spokesman said today: ‘We are investigating after a teenager was stabbed in Bordesley Green, Birmingham yesterday (Saturday).
