Ruben Amorim has included five Manchester United youngsters in the travelling squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

United have been thrown into an injury crisis in a further blow to their cursed season. The Red Devils’ shining light under Amorim, Amad Diallo, could be out for the remainder of the season after suffering an ankle ligament injury in training.

While Kobbie Mainoo also picked up a knock that is reported to leave him sidelined for a couple of weeks just days after Lisandro Martinez sustained a season-ending ACL injury.

The trio are also joined on the injury table by Mason Mount and Luke Shaw, with Manuel Ugarte, Toby Collyer, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Altay Bayindir all doubts to be involved in north London.

And Amorim has named five youth stars: Sekou Kone, Harry Amass, Jack Moorhouse, Elyh Harrison and Chido Obi, to travel with the first-team. None of the five have made their senior debuts yet could be thrown into the deep end on Sunday,

Chido Obi

United fans have been calling for the 17-year-old striker to be involved in the first-team given the Dane’s form for the youth team, and his previous goalscoring exploits at Arsenal, who he joined as a 14-year-old from KB in his homeland.

Obi joined United in the summer from the Gunners having scored 32 goals in 18 U18 Premier League appearances last season. Since moving to Manchester, Obi has scored 12 in nine U18 games.

Standing at 6ft 2in, Obi scored his latest hat-trick in United’s 5-1 demolition of Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup in front of club chiefs Jason Wilcox, Christopher Vivell and Darren Fletcher.

Amorim previously spoke of his admiration for Obi but gave a cautious approach to his promotion. “He’s doing his job. He’s improving and playing in the youth teams. We will see at the end of the season,” he said after victory against Leicester City.

Sekou Kone

Another summer addition, Sekou Kone was signed for £1million from Guidars FC in his native Mali.

The 19-year-old midfielder arrived with no experience of playing in England, having represented Mali at under-17 level. Kone has impressed in United’s youth games – completing his first full 90 in the Premier League 2 win over Spurs earlier this month.

The 5ft 10in centre midfielder is a raw gem that United have been attempting to mould before he featured for the first-team.

However, with United’s injury issues in the engine room, Kone could be called upon with his defensive side of the game lauded.

Harry Amass

The only name on the list to have previously featured multiple times in the first-team squad, 17-year-old left-back Harry Amass is hugely rated.

After being named on the bench on numerous occasions at the end of last season, Amass caught the eye with his performances in pre-season, and injuries to Tyrell Malacia and Shaw this campaign saw him touted for a competitive debut.

However, the England U18’s chance never came under Erik ten Hag, despite being asked to train with the first-team.

Amass has played 19 times for United’s youth teams so far this season from left-back. He registered his fourth assist of the season in the Premier League 2 win over Tottenham last time out.

Jack Moorhouse

Another highly-rated midfielder, Manchester-born Jack Moorhouse has impressed from a more advanced role in the middle of the park of late.

Moorhouse scored twice in United’s Premier League 2 win over Southampton in December, in front of Amorim.

The teenager, eligible to play for Ireland, also scored in the recent youth team win over Spurs.

The midfielder could suit Amorim’s system well with his ball-carrying ability and has even drawn comparisons with Paul Pogba for his vision and direct play.

Elyh Harrison

Goalkeeper Harrison is likely to be named on the bench again by Amorim, as he was against Crystal Palace last time out in the league, with Bayindir and Tom Heaton expected to be out injured.

The 18-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at National League North side Chester – playing 18 times and keeping seven clean sheets.

Amorim will be hoping that Andre Onana doesn’t add to United’s injury woes with Harrison set to go from playing in front of 652 at Needham Market to over 60,000 at Tottenham if he’s called upon.
