The suspect in the horrific Valentine’s Day pub shooting may have entered the river at the Dartford Crossing after the incident.

Believed to be known to the victim, the alleged gunman fled the Three Horseshoes pub in Knockholt, Kent, following the horror shooting. At around 7pm on February 14, authorities arrived at the scene which had unfolded in front of shocked pub goers in the establishment near Sevenoaks.

Police say both a car and a gun thought to be connected to the shooting were later found at the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge near the Dartford Crossing. They say the suspect “may have entered the water”. It comes after cops say they received reports of a male on the wrong side of the barrier on the crossing, The Sun reports.

Detective Chief Inspector David Higham, senior investigating officer, said: “Call handlers received reports of a man on the wrong side of the barrier and we are not ruling out the possibility that he may have entered the water.

“We are currently only looking for one suspect and do not believe there to be an ongoing risk to the public.

“Specialist officers continue to work with the families of both parties involved to support them following this tragic incident.”

Scared locals said they heard “three loud bangs” after the woman was shot outside the pub on Friday night. Police are still after the “man known to the victim” after being summoned to the Kentish village.

South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene just after 7pm.

Resident Zack Warne, 19, added: “It is shocking, this is Knockholt, not south London. The helicopter was up all night.”

Joyce Betts, 82, who lives near to the pub, added: “My granddaughter called me and said ‘make sure your windows and doors are locked’.

“I could see lights outside but I couldn’t tell what was going on. It was coming through that someone had been shot, I thought oh my God that’s all we need in our sleepy little village.”
