Donald Trump hatred sparks fights as anthem booed throughout US vs Canada ice hockey recreation
Fans in Montreal, Canada booed as the Star Spangled Banner was played before an ice hockey match, resulting in high tensions on the ice and fights within seconds of the game starting
Chaos erupted on the ice as US and Canadian ice hockey players clashed in a wild brawl after the American national anthem was booed.
As the Star Spangled Banner was played on Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, some of the fans were heard booing.
The fury exploded onto the ice as three brutal fights erupted between Canadian and American players within the first nine seconds of the game.
Crowds booing the US national anthem has become a common feature at many Canadian sporting events since the start of a threatened trade war between the two North American countries.
Earlier this month, Trump threatened 25 per cent tariffs on most Canadian imports, with another 10% on Canadian oil, natural gas and electricity. Justin Trudeau bargained a deal to delay the tariffs, with ideas such as a Fentanyl Czar.
Trump also said Canada “would be much better off” being the 51 st US state. Trudeau responded saying that he should be taken seriously because he wants access to the country’s critical minerals.
The Canadian Prime Minister said: “Mr Trump has it in mind that the easiest way to do it is absorbing our country and it is a real thing.”
Saturday February 15 also marked Flag Day in Canada, the 60 th anniversary celebration of the inauguration of their flag.
On the ice, the USA were triumphant, winning 3-1 against the Canadian’s but the Canadian’s are not letting that affect their view on Trump’s comments.
Five of Canada’s former prime ministers, Joe Clark, Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin and Stephen Harper, wrote an open letter earlier in the week asking Canadians to fly their flag in a display of national pride.
“We’ve had our share of battles in the past. But we all agree on one thing: Canada, the true north, strong and free, the best country in the world, is worth celebrating and fighting for,” they wrote.
