Liverpool set sights on Alexander Isak and Xavi Simons amid Premier League title chase
Liverpool are reportedly in the market to try and sign Alexander Isak and Xavi Simons in the summer transfer window, with the Reds said to be long-term admirers of both players
Liverpool’s Premier League title ambitions received a boost over the weekend, courtesy of their victory against Wolves. Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured a 2-1 win for the Reds at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Arne Slot’s squad now faces a hectic week, with away games against Aston Villa and Manchester City. Currently, Liverpool holds a seven-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the table, which could be stretched to 10 points if they get a midweek victory at Villa Park.
Off the pitch, Liverpool continues to be associated with several potential new signings ahead of the summer transfer window.
It remains uncertain what deals the Reds will finalise by the end of the season, with Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival confirmed once his loan spell at Valencia concludes.
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with reports that the Reds’ interest in Isak has been a hot topic since the January window closed, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Spanish news outlet Sport reports that Newcastle United are bracing themselves for the potential departure of Isak this summer, but only under specific conditions. The Magpies will reportedly let him go if they fail to qualify for the Champions League and if a rival club offers more than €100million (£83.3million).
Liverpool, who are said to be in the hunt for a new striker, are named as potential suitors, but they’ll face stiff competition from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona. It’s also suggested that Liverpool could fund the move by selling Luis Diaz, who is rumoured to be on Barca’s radar.
In other news, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. Football Insider claims that the Reds have been long-term admirers of the Dutch international, who joined the Bundesliga side on loan last summer before making the move permanent in January.
The report suggests that Leipzig might be willing to let Simons go at the end of the season if an offer of £60million comes in. Manchester City and Manchester United are also said to be ready to battle it out with Liverpool for Simons’ signature.
