Wigan’s young talent, Harrison Rimmer, made history at Everton’s brand new £750m stadium, before revealing his Merseyside loyalties to the spectators. Everton’s journey into a new era took another stride with the first test event at their stunning new Bramley Moore Dock stadium.

Unfortunately for the Toffees, their Under-18s were defeated by Wigan in the inaugural match at the impressive venue. Approximately 10,000 fans attended the first of three test events at the new stadium, which is set to be fully operational next season.

The 52,888-seater stadium, under construction since 2021 and completed on Christmas Eve, is now being fitted out behind the scenes in preparation for the move from Goodison Park. Last night, the South Stand was opened to the public for the first time, presenting an awe-inspiring sight.

Everton anticipates that the state-of-the-art ground will elevate the club to new heights through increased revenue. The steep 14,000-seater stand had its trial run, with kiosks open on the concourse and eager fans purchasing new products, including Everton-branded Toffee doughnuts.

However, the U18s found themselves in a tricky situation on the pitch as Wigan midfielder Rimmer scored the first ever goal at the new stadium with an early opener, reports the Mirror.

The young Latics player then caused a stir by celebrating with six fingers raised to the crowd, possibly referencing Liverpool’s six European Cups. Cole Simms quickly added a second goal for Wigan, marking his celebration by kicking over the corner flag.

Ray Robert made history as the first Everton player to score at the stadium when the 16 year old netted a late penalty, but an equaliser was not forthcoming.
