Donald Trump asks baffling query about ‘condoms for Hamas’ in newest mad ramblings

Donald Trump has spoken out again – this time in a rambling speech where he talked about condoms and circumcision.

This evening Trump was speaking to an investment conference in Miami where he started giving a long list of ways that his administration had made savings in public expenditure. And he bizarrely stated: “$10m for Mozambique medical male circumcision! What does that mean!”

He then went on: “$50m plus another $50m for condoms for Hamas. You know about that? $100m for condoms! Does everyone know what a condom is?” There was bemused laughter from those in attendance. Trump also picked out Elon Musk in the audience, who is heading up the Department of Government Efficiency, nicknamed DOGE, which has been behind the spending cuts.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously told a press briefing that the administration had stopped millions in taxpayer dollars from being spent on condoms in Gaza. The findings came after an investigation into federal spending including in foreign aid.

She said: “DOGE and OMB also found that there was about to be $50m taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza… That is a preposterous waste of taxpayer money.” The claim that $50m was being spend on condoms for Gaza has since been rubbished – despite Trump repeating it tonight.

It follows his war of words with Volodymyr Zelensky about his handling of the war in Ukraine. Relations deteriorated rapidly today as Zelensky said Trump was living in a Russian-made “disinformation space” and the US president called the Ukrainian leader “a dictator without elections”. Zelensky also said he would like Trump’s team “to be more truthful” as he offered his first response to a series of striking claims Trump made a day earlier, including falsely suggesting Kyiv was to blame for the war.

The comments on Zelensky have been part of a staggering back-and-forth between leaders of two countries that have been staunch allies in recent years under Trump’s predecessor. While former President Joe Biden was in the White House, the US provided crucial military equipment to Kyiv to fend off the invasion and used its political weight to defend Ukraine and isolate Russia on the world stage.

The Trump administration has started charting a new course, reaching out to Russia and pushing for a peace deal. Senior officials from both countries held talks Tuesday to discuss improving ties, negotiating an end to the war and potentially preparing a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin after years of frosty relations.

Trump lashed out at Zelensky in a social media post. He called Zelensky “a modestly successful comedian” who “talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and ‘TRUMP,’ will never be able to settle.”

The president went on to say that the only thing Zelensky “was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle.’” He advised Zelensky to “move fast or he is not going to have a Country left.” Meanwhile, Putin said he would like to meet with Trump.

Russia’s army crossed the border on February 24, 2022, in an all-out invasion Putin sought to justify by falsely asserting that it was needed to protect civilians in eastern Ukraine. He also accused the US and its allies of ignoring Russia’s demand to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and to offer Moscow security guarantees. Ukraine and its allies denounced the assault as an unprovoked act of aggression.

“I would like to have a meeting, but it needs to be prepared so that it brings results,” Putin said Wednesday in televised remarks. He added that he would be “pleased” to meet Trump but noted that the US president has acknowledged that a Ukrainian settlement could take longer than he initially hoped.
