Liverpool and Arsenal have learned their Champions League fates.

The two English sides didn’t have to navigate the play-off round thanks to their dominant performances in the league phase. And they could take an arm chair seat as 16 European sides battled in two-legged ties.

Following the draw that took place last month, league-toppers Liverpool or 2nd place Barcelona were drawn to play either Brest, PSG, Monaco or Benfica.

Benfica advanced to the next round after edging past Monaco in an enthralling 3-3 draw to set, after they held a 1-0 advantage following their victory in the principality. While PSG made light work of Brest in a one-sided tie.

Meanwhile Arsenal or Inter Milan would face either Juventus, PSV, Feyenoord or AC Milan.

Feyenoord stunned AC Milan to book their place in the next round during Tuesday’s early kick-off. While Juventus and PSV went to extra-time.

Manchester City have been dumped out after a drab evening in Madrid.

Aston Villa or Lille could have been drawn against Club Brugge, Atalanta, Sporting Lisbon or Borussia Dortmund. With Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund advancing in that bracket.

The round of 16 draw takes place on Friday (February 21) under this new format, the draw places teams into a position in the bracket to create a fixture, rather than the traditional method of drawing one team against another.

From there each team will know their route to the final, which will be held in Munich at the Allianz Arena on May 31.
