Warning to anybody with an air fryer as you will need to do one factor each month
Air fryers have been a godsend in recent years as Brits try to cut down on energy bills – but one expert has warned that cleaning them is a must to avoid a nasty smell in your kitchen
Air fryers are the latest must-have in the kitchen, but users are being issued an urgent cleaning warning to avoid bungling up their trendy gadget. The cost-effective, all-in-one cookers might be saving Brits a few bob on their energy bills, but folks are being told they need to give their air fryer a proper scrub regularly.
Users should ‘deep clean’ their fryers at least once a month and refresh it with a quick wipe-down after each use. And beware – no chucking any parts of it in the dishwasher, even if it says it’s safe!
Dr Richard Anderson, the Head of Learning at High Speed Training, said: “It’s recommended that you give your air fryer a light clean after every use and a deeper clean every month, or every few uses if you regularly cook greasy foods.
“For a monthly deep clean, you’ll need to clean all the accessories and inside the appliance more thoroughly to remove burnt-on food, grease and odours.”
Dr Anderson warns not to trust the ‘dishwasher-safe’ label, as dishwashers can wreck the non-stick coating on your air fryer bits, reports the Express.
If you’ve got a tough bit of grub baked onto your fryer, he suggests soaking it overnight with a dishwasher tablet thrown in for good measure before rinsing it off the next day.
As the heating element is integrated into the air fryer and can’t be removed, it should never be submerged in water to avoid damaging the appliance. To clean it, use a fresh, damp cloth or sponge to wipe off any grease and dirt from the heating element.
Rinse the cloth in warm soapy water and wipe again, repeating this action until no dirt is left on the heating coil.
For stubborn grease, use a soft bristled toothbrush and warm, soapy water to carefully scrub the heating element. Avoid getting it too wet so you don’t damage the element.
Leave the heating element to dry completely before switching the air fryer back on.
Some air fryers have built-in filters, which also need to be cleaned and maintained. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for more advice for your particular model.
