Sam Fender says claims working-class younger males profit from ‘white privilege’ are sending them into the arms of Andrew Tate

Claims that working-class men benefit from ‘white privilege’ is driving them towards misogynistic influencer Andrew Tate, musician Sam Fender has said.

Fender said class privilege is not often recognised, with young white men from ‘nowhere towns’ being ‘shamed’ and told they are not underprivileged because of their skin colour.

The English singer-songwriter, 30, who was born in North Shields, near Newcastle, said: ‘People are very unaware’.

‘We are very good at talking about privileges – white, male or straight privilege. We rarely talk about class, though.’

Fender argued that young men who are ‘made to feel like they’re a problem’ are ‘seduced’ by Andrew Tate videos.

He claimed that Tate, whom he described as a ‘demagogue’ and a ‘psycho’, is luring in an audience that feel undervalued by society by telling them they are ‘worth something’.

Former kickboxer Andrew Tate is a controversial influencer and self-proclaimed misogynist, who achieved online fame by calling on men to ‘escape the Matrix’ and reject feminism.

Fender, known for songs like Seventeen Going Under, told the Sunday Times: ‘That’s a lot of the reason that all the young lads are seduced by demagogues and psychos like Andrew Tate.

‘They’re being shamed all the time and made to feel like they’re a problem.

‘It’s this narrative being told to white boys from nowhere towns.

‘People preach to some kid in a pit town in Durham who’s got f*** all and tell him he’s privileged?

‘Then Tate tells him he’s worth something? It’s seductive.’

Andrew Tate has a huge online following along with his brother Tristan Tate, both vocal supporters of Donald Trump.

The British-American pair are currently facing trial in Romania, where they live, for a number of charges, including rape and human trafficking.

Both deny any wrongdoing.

The Tate brothers were released from house arrest by a Romanian court last month pending the outcome of an investigation, but remain barred from leaving the country.

This prompted Donald Trump’s team to contact the Romanian government and ask for them to be allowed to leave the country while the investigation is carried out.

The Romanian government has since confirmed this was a request, but denied there was political ‘pressure’.

Last year, four women in the UK filed a lawsuit against the brothers, accusing them of rape, physical assault and giving them sexually transmitted infections.

The women are seeking more than £100,000 each in damages from Tate and want the case to be heard in the UK.

Three of the women alleged they were raped by Tate, with one saying he raped her as many as five times.

The allegations also included that he throttled two of the women until the vessels in their eyes burst and threatened one with a firearm.

One said he blackmailed her with nude images, while several said he infected them with STDs during rapes.

The group have all been granted anonymity by the High Court in London, which their lawyers say is ‘necessary to protect them from harm and harassment by Tate, his associates, and followers’.
