Armed police storm major faculty after ‘bomb menace’ with 200m cordon in place

A primary school has been evacuated following reports of a bomb threat and a major police response.
Police responded to the scene at around 2:30pm today after reports of an alleged threat. A cordon stretching to 200 metres around the school was put in place and nearby homes were also evacuated. Roads at the scene were shut by officers.
A spokesperson for Swindon Police said: “We are currently responding to a report of a malicious threat at Badbury Park Primary School in Rainscombe Road, Swindon.
“Specialist officers are on the scene, and the school has followed its emergency evacuation plans as a precaution. A 200-metre cordon has been set up around the school. We will issue a further update when appropriate.”
There are a reported 15 police vehicles in attendance at the scene, while senior officers from both the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Western Ambulance Service, Wiltshire 999s reported.
In an update on Facebook, the school, which has 265 pupils according to its most recent Ofsted report, said the school is being evacuated and instructed parents to pick up their children nearby.
“We are all ok,” the school said.
Swindon’s Buses, part of the GoAhead Group, said services 1, 1A and 1B “can only enter and leave Badbury Park via Biddestone Avenue until further notice” due to the situation.
