Student taken to hospital with ‘face accidents’ after ‘assault’ in UK college bogs
A student has been taken to hospital after intervening in a fight between two boys – a police investigation and enquiry are ongoing – the boy has been discarded from hospital
A student was taken to hospital after intervening in a fight between two male pupils in school’s toilets in Newcastle, police say.
Northumbria police are still investigating an incident that took place at Jesmond Park Academy, in Heaton, Newcastle, last Thursday (February 20) at lunch time. It has been reported that emergency services were called to the secondary school at around 1.30pm following an incident where a boy had been assaulted by two boys in a toilet.
Another student then entered the bathroom and tried to intervene in the fight, but was attacked. He suffered facial injuries and was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
A Northumbrian police spokesman said: “Shortly before 1.30pm last Thursday we received a report of a disturbance at a school on Jesmond Park West, in Newcastle. It was reported that a boy was assaulted by two other boys in a toilet area of the building, causing soreness to the victim’s head. Another boy is reported to have attempted to intervene and was then assaulted by two boys.”
“He sustained facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries before later being discharged. Officers are investigating the reports and enquiries are ongoing.”
The principal of the school, Steve Campbell, said that as a school they are taking the incident “very seriously”.
“While we do not comment on individual cases to protect the privacy of those involved, we can confirm that the police were called and are actively investigating the matter. The incident was dealt with promptly, and our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our students. We are committed to providing the necessary support during this time” said Campbell.
A spokeswoman from North East Ambulance service said: “We were called to an incident at a premises on Jesmond Park West, Heaton shortly after 1pm on Thursday. We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to hospital for further treatment”.
