Bristol canine assault as younger girl, 19, killed by ‘XL Bully’ with two arrested
A 19-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a dog at a flat in Bristol, with a man and woman arrested in connection with the incident, police have said
A young woman was fatally mauled by a dog in Bristol, leading to two arrests. Police rushed to the Hartcliffe locale at 7.19pm yesterday following a distress call from paramedics, but despite their best efforts, the 19 year old woman died at the scene. Her family have been notified of the incident.
The dog, believed to be an XL Bully, has been captured and tranquilised, with a thorough vet check pending to confirm its breed.
A man and woman, both in their 20s, are now arrested on suspicion of having a dangerous dog off the leash that caused injury resulting in death, and for owning a banned dog. They’re now being held in custody.
Avon and Somerset Police’s Neighbourhood Inspector Terry Murphy expressed his condolences: “Our thoughts, first and foremost, are with the family of the young woman who’s tragically died as a result of yesterday evening’s incident.
“They have been updated and will be supported by a family liaison officer.”
Police have appealed for witnesses following a tragic incident, as an officer expressed his gratitude to emergency services and outlined ongoing investigations.
The officer said: “I’d also like to thank the officers and paramedics who attended yesterday evening and tried to save her life. Support is in place for them.
“A full investigation is now well underway to establish the full circumstances of the events that led to her death. As part of this work, Cobhorn Drive was closed last night and I thank everyone for their patience and understanding about our need to do this.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, including neighbourhood officers, and if you have any concerns please do speak to them,” reports the Mirror.
Residents can expect further police presence in the vicinity as enquiries continue, with authorities inviting anyone with information to step forward and assist the investigation.
