Darts fans were left in stitches by a cheeky comment during Stephen Bunting’s walk-on.
The Bullet is still searching for his first win in Premier League darts – and he continued his losing streak on Thursday when he was dismantled by a rampant Luke Littler.
And Sid Waddell, who was on commentary for Sky Sports, joked ahead of the first arrow: “It can’t keep going on like this!” And Rob Studd, who was quick on the comeback, joked: “It can.”
He was referencing the famous Mick McCarthy quote, when he was asked about his ongoing losing streak.
“Wasn’t expecting a Mick McCarthy reference on comms,” one fan joked. While a second said: “Mick McCarthy reference on Premier League darts tonight, got a proper chuckle out of me!”
“Couple of Mick McCarthy jokes on commentary, absolutely superb stuff,” a third posted. And another added: “That Mick McCarthy joke on the darts is top tier!”
The attention online was seen by Studd: “IT CAN! Really glad you picked up on that. We had been rehearsing it all evening!”
And one fan responded: “Devastated to hear there is rehearsal! I always thought it was just brilliant wit and intelligent banter…” And Studd hit back: “It is in the main!
“But Sid used to practice his ad libs. If it was good enough for the. Master… We wanted to get that one spot on tonight!”
“Chuck us some Neil Warnock next week please,” another cheeky fan requested as Studd replied: “I’ll look into it Sammie. Gave a couple an airing at the worlds!”
