Jurgen Klopp names one ‘disappointment’ after becoming a member of Liverpool that made him say ‘Oh my God’

Jurgen Klopp wasn’t exactly thrilled with the Anfield locker rooms when he signed on as Liverpool’s manager.

Lured to the dugout following Brendan Rodgers’ dismissal in October 2015, Klopp would lead the team through an incredible era, bagging a Premier League title, Champions League crown, FA Cup, a couple of League Cups and the Club World Cup.

Not to mention, under his watchful eye, Anfield itself underwent a transformation – expanding its iconic stands from accommodating fewer than 45,000 fans to over 61,000 by the time Klopp waved goodbye last season.

In the new Amazon Prime Video four-part documentary ‘Doubters To Believers: Liverpool FC – Klopp’s Era’, the ex-gaffer reminisces about cutting his holiday short to embark on the Merseyside adventure.

Klopp had managed a pre-season friendly at Anfield for Dortmund back in summer 2014, but admits while he wasn’t primed for the intense focus that comes with leading the Reds, the reality of Liverpool left him gobsmacked.

“There’s all these crazy things, like people track the plane and stuff like that, and you don’t have this idea of yourself or that people could be interested in a football manager flying into a country,” Klopp reveals in the doc.

“In the same moment I was really disappointed because I realised ‘Oh my God, I forgot that the dressing rooms are really bad!’ And I don’t like bad dressing rooms,” reports the Mirror.

Klopp famously vowed to convert Liverpool’s supporters from ‘doubters to believers’ at his very first presser, as well as promising the club would snag a title within four seasons.

Chipping in on the documentary, former Reds defender Jamie Carragher quipped: “Liverpool had been in the doldrums for a few years, and Jurgen in his first press conference declared that they were going to win a title in four years, but I’m not sure everyone believed him!”
