Bizarre second dart lands in participant’s FOOT after bouncing again from the board in ‘by no means earlier than seen’ incident at UK Open Darts

  • Martin Schindler suffered a 10-4 defeat by Jonny Clayton at the UK Open Darts
  • During the game, the German had an incident where a dart landed in his foot
  • Schindler quickly pulled the dart out and surprisingly continued as normal

Martin Schindler had a bizarre incident during his last-16 match against Jonny Clayton at the 2025 UK Open Darts, when a dart bounced off the board and landed in his foot.

The German failed to book his spot in the quarter-finals after losing 10-4 to Clayton, who logged an impressive 98.04 three-dart average and 42 per cent on his checkouts.

Schindler trailed the match 6-4 at one point, but his Welsh opponent turned it up a gear to win four straight sets and end on a high finish of 101.

In a night to forget for Schindler, the bizarre incident in the 13th set would have done him no good as he looked to overturn a large deficit.

The world No 23 set up at the oche as normal, but his throw rebounded off the board, piercing through his trousers and into his ankle.

Nevertheless, he cut an unbothered look, not even letting out a wince, before reaching down to pull the dart out.

Schindler quickly reassured the crowd and referee, while Clayton could not help but smile at his opponent’s nonchalant reaction to the unusual incident.

Clayton is awaiting the results of some heavy hitters to see who he will face in the quarter-finals.

World champion Luke Littler faces Krzysztof Ratajski in the last-16, while Luke Humphries is up against Ryan Joyce.

Meanwhile, Nathan Aspinall must beat William O’Connor to make the last-eight, and Michael Smith faces Dimitri Van den Bergh.

2025 World Championship finalist Michael van Gerwen made a shocking exit in the fifth round after he was dumped out of the competition by Robert Owen.
