Former Barclays boss Jess Staley to problem City ban over Jeffrey Epstein hyperlinks

Former Barclays boss Jes Staley will this week take the financial watchdog to court after he was banned from the City over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.

The legal battle will see City figures including Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey give evidence at the hearing in London.

It comes after the Financial Conduct Authority banned the American businessman from holding senior financial industry positions in 2023.

The watchdog said he had acted with a ‘lack of integrity’ by allegedly misleading the regulator over his relationship with Epstein.

The saga saw Barclays claw back nearly £18m of Staley’s bonuses.

Email extracts showed Staley had described Epstein as one of his ‘most cherished’ friends.
