The Met Office has predicted that parts of the UK are set to be hotter than Spain in the coming days.

UK temperatures will soar to a summery 16 degrees Celsius this week, after meteorological spring began on Saturday. According to the Met Office, Britain’s weather will mark a “fine start to March”.

High-tech weather modelling maps have predicted that the UK’s fair weather will reach its peak on Wednesday afternoon, with highs of 16C expected in North-Eastern England, including Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire.

These soaring temperatures are even set to rival that of Spain. Madrid is expected to only reach highs of 14 degrees in comparison, accompanied by light rain.

Much of the UK can enjoy a dry day without showers, although there is likely to be some cloudy skies and patchy rain in Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, parts of the Midlands, such as Herefordshire and Worcestershire, can still expect an agreeable 14C.

On their website, the Met Office explained: “High pressure is likely to have more influence across the south of the UK, at least at first. Here, there should be a good deal of fine/dry weather during early March with a chance of night frosts and morning fog patches.”

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin took to YouTube to explain further: “High pressure is sitting in here, and that is going to bring in a lot of fine weather over the next few days…

“Generally, the jet has shifted north and this has allowed this chunky area of high pressure to sit in and that is going to bring a lot of fine weather, certainly through the course of this weekend and into next week.”

Meteorologists also explained that the fair weather will not go on uninterrupted, adding to the website: “Conditions will be fairly changeable with a chance of showers or longer spells of rain across all areas, these more likely, at least at first, in the west.”

The Met Office also cites the potential of “milder but more unsettled conditions” developing later on in the week.
