Two British motorcyclists have gone viral after a TikTok video showed them giving a ride to two monks in Thailand. A TikTok user shared a video of him and his friend giving the monks a lift on the back of their bikes.
The cameraman, @tubs096, says: “Just get a monk on the back, as you do!” He then points the camera to his pal, who was giving another monk a ride.
The monks were enjoying the lift, but looked slightly unnerved by the boys’ speed. One of them said in a Thai dialect : “If I survive today, I will never die!”
One of the lads then posted a picture of him posing with the monks, whom he was considerably taller than, putting his arms around them while one of the monks held his hand.
The monks later blessed the pair and gave them holy threads as gifts. Thai monks give the threads to those who show them respect, as they are believed to bring luck and prosperity to the wearer.
The photographs of the lads with the monks amused Thai locals, as usually monks aren’t touched as a sign of respect, but these two had their arms around them. Nonetheless, the video has been vastly popular on social media, with people finding the pair endearing.
One TikTok user said: “In our culture it’s disrespectful to touch a monk but clearly they didn’t care plus you guys are amazing to help them where they needed to be.”
Another said: “Why is this the funniest and cutest thing ever lol.”
The tourist has since posted several videos of him and his pals enjoying the Thai scenery and culture. The video has over one million views on TikTok, and over 160,000 likes.
