Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has warned his team to be wary of Liverpool‘s ‘three fighter jets’ when the two sides meet in the Champions League‘s round of 16.
Both clubs are 13 points clear at the top of their domestic divisions after making superb starts to the season.
PSG are unbeaten in 24 Ligue 1 matches, while Liverpool have lost just once in 28 Premier League games.
They have each scored 66 league goals and Enrique said ahead of their first leg in Paris on Wednesday: ‘It’s difficult to imagine a better match-up on paper, between two dominant teams, with two slightly different ways of playing but teams with dominant styles.
‘Liverpool have been one of the best teams in Europe over the past few years, they won the Champions League [in 2019]. It was difficult to improve on what [former manager Jurgen] Klopp did but Arne Slot has succeeded in creating an almost perfect team.
‘There’s a player like [Mohamed] Salah with incredible stats, but there’s not just Salah, there are lots of top-class players, it’s a very complete team. That motivates us and it’s time for us to also show we’ve got what it takes.’

Former Spain and Barcelona boss Enrique added: ‘They have one of the best attacks in Europe, we’re going to look to keep the ball, but we’ll need to be careful with their counter-attacks, they’ve got three fighter jets up front.
‘We have to be able to do what we’ve been doing since the start of the season, there’s nothing that changes.
‘We know that we’re facing the most consistent team this season, but the plan doesn’t change. It’s going to be a hard-fought, difficult game. The first match is not going to decide everything, but it’s a very important one for us. It’s hard for opponents to play at the Parc des Princes with the pressure of the crowd.’
It is not clear which three ‘fighter jets’ Slot will select to start on Wednesday night but they are expected to feature in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Salah will almost certainly start on the right, with Luis Diaz likely to operate from the left.
Slot’s other attacking options include Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez.
Salah has scored 30 goals in 39 games for Liverpool this season, while Diaz has netted 13 in 38. Gakpo is Liverpool’s second leading scorer with 16 goals. Jota and Nunez have eight and six respectively.
