Brit fisherman nearly has arm ripped off after being bitten by whopping 300lb shark
Curtis Miller was left needing 19 stitches and three arteries tying up after being attacked by a huge shark, but has claimed he’d happily go on the ‘trip of a lifetime’ again
A monster shark took revenge on a fisherman who caught it by almost ripping his arm off. Dad-of-two Curtis Miller, 30, needed 91 stitches and three arteries tying, left, after the savage attack by the 300lb whopper.
He was on a fishing “trip of a lifetime” with pals in South Africa when the sand tiger shark bit him. They had just landed the beast and were taking the hook from its mouth when it thrashed and latched onto his arm.
Curtis, of Barry, South Wales, said: “I didn’t feel anything at first then felt how powerful it was and saw the amount of blood I was losing. The boys I was with attended to it and the local ranger took me to a private hospital. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Despite the incident, Curtis is determined to go back to South Africa.
“”The trip was very professionally run and organised. Their care and support were second to none. This was a freak accident. People don’t need to be put off by my accident. The trip is a lifetime opportunity, and I will most definitely return.”
Unlike Curtis who felt calm after the attack, his mother Helen Miller, 60, was very worried. She said: “He phoned me the following day after he’d been in hospital, and I was just beside myself. I had a breakdown and had to pass the phone over to my husband.
“I didn’t know whether he’d lost a leg or lost an arm when he phoned, all I could see was his face and he went ‘mum I’ve got something to tell you, I’ve been bitten by a shark.’ It’s your worst nightmare.
“As they were taking the hook out it turned its head around and latched on his arm. He was really lucky that he didn’t lose his arm as there was a lot of blood.”
