Tesco has had to say a sorry to its customers because it’s stopped selling a fridge essential. The large six pints of milk bottle has been given the boot from UK stores, leaving a few shoppers miffed and querying on social media.

One such C user pointedly asked, “Can I ask @Tesco why you don’t sell the six pints of milk anymore? Certainly not home delivery.” Rather apologetically, Tesco’s rep replied, “Good afternoon, thanks for getting in touch. Tesco British Whole Milk 3.408L, 6 Pints has been discontinued. I’m sorry for any disappointment.”

It turns out this decision wasn’t fresh off the farm; they actually ditched the larger milk size back in 2023 in an effort to cut down on waste—seems those big bottles were getting binned too often!

A Tesco spokesperson claimed: “We phased out six-pint bottles of milk back in 2023 to reduce wastage, as there were higher levels of waste on that product size.”, reports the Mirror.

They made sure to point out that their four pint bottles are still cracking value for money, especially since they’ve knocked the price down not once, but twice recently. Back in 2023 when the six-pinters got the chop, another shopper was left scratching their head, tweeting, “@Tesco have you stopped selling six pint bottles of semi skimmed milk? Coming up as unavailable on app and none on shelf in store this morning”.

Many customers expressed their confusion and frustration on social media, wondering why they couldn’t get their hands on the weekly essential at their local stores. One customer asked, “Any idea why six pints of milk never seem available for online orders?” Another customer complained, “I buy lots of milk, but it’s annoying having to pay more by purchasing four-pint bottles.”

One shopper speculated that Tesco had discontinued the staple to “milk more money from customers with smaller cartons”, while another declared they would be taking their business to Aldi from now on.
