Mikel Arteta ‘to promote 4 Arsenal gamers’ to fund transfers for summer time revamp
Arsenal face a hectic summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul his squad – and several first-team players are expected to be shown the door
Arsenal are already gearing up for the 2025/26 season, with murmurs of a significant squad shake-up in the pipeline.
The Gunners have been dogged by injuries and inconsistency this season, and their slim Premier League title dreams were all but dashed after a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.
Liverpool now sit comfortably at the top, a whopping 15 points ahead. While they’re still in the running for Champions League glory, it seems Arsenal’s attention is starting to drift towards a summer revamp as their domestic season fizzles out.
It’s no secret that Arsenal are on the hunt for a new striker, and word has it they’re also eyeing up wingers and central midfielders.
But to make room for fresh faces, they’ll need to free up some cash and squad space, which means a few first-team players could be shown the door.
Reports suggest Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jorginho, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney are all set to exit the club this summer, as Arsenal aim to build a ‘transfer war chest’ for boss Mikel Arteta.
The four players have a combined value of £55million according to Transfermarkt, but with three of them out of contract this summer, it’s unlikely Arsenal will get that much.
Partey, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is the only one getting regular playtime. However, the Ghanaian is also one of the club’s top earners, raking in a reported £200,000 per week, and he’ll be blowing out 32 candles on his next birthday cake, reports the Mirror.
Jorginho, who’s also nearing the end of his contract, has seen less action on the pitch this season, thanks to Mikel Merino’s arrival. With Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi expected to join in the summer, it might be best for everyone if the ex-Chelsea star makes a move.
Zinchenko, on the other hand, has lost favour since Riccardo Calafiori’s transfer to the Emirates. Despite the Italian defender spending much of the season injured, Arteta seems to prefer Jurrien Timber as his go-to backup left-back.
A few clubs had their sights set on Zinchenko during the January transfer window, including Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, but the 28 year old Ukrainian chose to stay put. However, a summer departure seems likely, with Arsenal reportedly asking for around £17m.
Tierney finds himself in a similar situation to Zinchenko, with the Scottish player barely getting a chance at left-back. The 27 year old’s contract ends in the summer, and rumours are swirling about a potential return to his old stomping ground, Celtic.
