Rider dies at motocross occasion simply months after teen killed at similar race observe
A man in his early 40s has been killed at a motocross track in Suffolk – the second fatal incident at the course in six months.
The rider, who has not been named at this stage, died at Mildenhall MX on Sunday, with local authority West Suffolk Council confirming it had launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The tragedy comes after another rider, George Edwards, 17, lost his life after crashing while taking part in an event at the West Row track in September.
It is understood the man who died on Sunday was killed while riding on the track during an event which catered for riders ranging from novice to expert. Some online comments suggested the track had been very busy at the time of the incident.
But posting on Facebook on Monday, Mildenhall MX Ltd issued a statement in which it hit out at any criticism of the race track and its safety.

Mildenhall MX Ltd said: “This is just to say we are doing everything possible in light of yesterday’s tragic event. I can tell you with certainty, the track was as safe as it has ever been.
“Yes we have had two deaths in 6 months and this is shocking but for 24 years we had no fatal injures. Health and safety and all necessary procedures are adhered to but we will be going through everything all over again because safety is first and foremost.
“We have had so many lovely comments and phone calls. But we have had the trolls of social media make up lies and slag us off.
“People not even connected to the track or those who just like to cause trouble. This is unfair and not helpful to us at all. To the family it is disrespectful also.
“We are looking at everything. We turned at least 30 riders away yesterday and number of riders have to be controlled. We are going to be over hauling everything.
“Do not think for one moment that we are complacent and not bothered. We are and we are deeply affected by this. We can not control the bad negativity amongst the very few who like to cause havoc online.”
West Suffolk Council said: “We can confirm that we are investigating an incident at Mildenhall Motocross that has sadly resulted in the death of a motocross rider at the weekend. Our thoughts are with their friends and family.”
Suffolk Police confirmed officers had attended the scene.
