Singing in the shower and smiling at strangers are two of the biggest giveaways you’re a morning person – and probably a bit annoying.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed Brits spring out of bed and start whistling after a good night’s sleep, according to stats released this week. However scientists recently said sleeping in on weekends could be a health benefit – and make you happier.

Feeling chipper and humming a tune while making breakfast is just one of the tell tale ways to prove you are a morning person. It likely also suggests they’re not in the percentage of the population who struggle to sleep the whole night through.

A new study has revealed a whopping 36% of folk would describe themselves as a fully fledged “morning person”.

They say they are definitely someone who will leap out of bed at the first sound of the alarm to make a brew, write their to-do-list, or even partake in some sunrise yoga.

But a third of these keen beans have in fact chosen a long-term partner who belongs in a different category to them, and prefer to come alive in the evening time.

A 15% of night owls claim they’ve shacked up with a morning person, but almost half – 47% of those asked – wish their partner was less cheerful before 9am and would just shut up.

Stats also revealed the definitive signs you’re a true morning person, including being unable to lie in at weekends, flinging the curtains open dramatically and always waking up before your alarm.

A total of 19% say they sing in the shower before leaving for the day to really perk up their mornings.

The stats, collated by granola brand Lizi’s, also found that our differing emotions in the mornings causes rows, with four in ten – 43% – admitting that they often have cross words – an average of eight arguments a month because of their irritatingly chipper other halves.

Daniel Wheeler from Lizi’s said: “It’s clear that the nation falls into two distinct categories with many of us finding it difficult to understand our opposite.

“However, one thing Brits clearly do agree on is that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, no matter your mood in the mornings. Starting your day with a nutritious breakfast sets you up for success.”
