Ajaz Ahmed, 56, used his home and a cafe he ran as bases to groom young girls, who he would ply with alcohol.

Detectives said he used offers of jobs and accommodation in a bid to exert control over his victims, who he subjected to a “sustained period of control and physical and sexual abuse”.

He was convicted of 23 offences, including the rape and sexual assault of children, following a trial.

Police said Ahmed’s crimes came to light when a victim came forward to report she had been raped by several men at a flat in Rochdale, Gtr Manchester.

She was driven around by officers and pinpointed a house in Drake Street as the location of the attack, which Ahmed was identified as the owner of.

Another girl said she had been beaten, raped and sexually assaulted on ‘multiple occasions’ during a ‘coercive and controlling relationship’ when she was 15, the MEN reports.

Ahmed had lied about his age, claiming to be 27, and subjected her to a horrific and sustained period of control and physical and sexual abuse.

The abuse spanned several years, police said.

Another victim told police he offered her somewhere to live in exchange for work, but after a few weeks, he sexually assaulted her in the kitchen. Ahmed took her to nightclubs and, one occasion, raped her in the basement of the Drake Street property.

He threatened to kick her out and make her homeless if she tried to stop him.

A fourth victim was offered a room at the Drake Street house by Ahmed, who she knew as ‘AJ’.

One night he let himself in and raped her in front of a group of laughing men. He then began to regularly rape her.

A fifth victim said she was offered a place to stay by Ahmed in return for sexual favours. When she declined, he sexually assaulted her.

Ahmed jailed for 28 years on Monday. Speaking after sentencing, DC Ann Cooper Poole said: “These girls had their childhoods and teen years tainted in the most abhorrent way, and they experienced what no one should ever experience.”
