Ange Postecoglou clashes with seething fan after Spurs’ newest horror present
Ange Postecoglou was involved in a heated exchange with a Tottenham fan after his side’s 2-0 defeat at Fulham on Sunday, which left them 14th in the Premier League
Ange Postecoglou was involved in a heated exchange with a Tottenham Hotspur supporter following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Fulham.
The defeat was sealed with late strikes from Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon and marks yet another setback for Spurs, dragging them down to 14th in the league after 15 losses.
Postecoglou had opted to bench Son Heung-min and James Maddison, piling further pressure onto his shoulders, with Spurs not registering a shot on target until the 65th-minute mark, a fact not lost on the travelling fans who voiced their anger at full-time.
As the players trudged off towards the changing room, a furious fan confronted Postecoglou as he headed to the tunnel, with the video beginning by the supporter demanding: “What was that (performance)? I mean, what was that?”. Postecoglou then turned to the supporter, who ranted to his face: “What was it? I’m just asking, what was it?”.
Postecoglou then reacted to the fan, calling out: “Hey, you’re a young man…” before his players and coaches stepped in to defuse the situation, seeing forward Mathys Tel demand the fan to “Show some respect.” Tottenham coaches stepped in to steer Postecoglou towards the changing room.
Tottenham’s woeful season is now pinned on Europa League success, with a crucial quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt looming. However, Postecoglou insisted in his post-match press conference that he won’t allow his players to dismiss the remaining league games.
“I said to the players I’m not going to allow anyone to think about Europa and nothing else,” he said. “We can’t let this league season go the way it has. We have lost way too many games. Unacceptable.
“Today was another day where it’s not like the opposition have blown us off the park. We should have got something out of the game. We have had too many games this year where the opportunity to get something out of the game was there and we haven’t done that.”
