Ruben Amorim admitted Manchester United are still a huge distance from the standard demanded by their fans despite their second win in four days.
United cruised to a 3-0 win against a woeful Leicester side thanks to a goal and two assists from Bruno Fernandes, once again the talisman for his team.
Amorim was serenaded throughout by a raucous travelling contingent, yet he believes he needs to achieve much more to deserve their respect.
‘We are so far away from what they expect and deserve so I am not going to feel much better (about it),’ he said. ‘We want to win and improve our performances.
‘Our performances are getting better and then when you have the results, you feel better still. I am seeing different things in the team.
‘Today you could feel a lack of energy in some players (after the win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League last Thursday) but the team can find a way to win even when they’re a bit tired. That’s a good sign.

Ruben Amorim said his Man United side are improving but are still far off where they need to be

The Red Devils secured a 3-0 win away at relegation-struggling Leicester on Sunday evening

The win was United’s third in six games and second by a three-goal margin this week
‘We are understanding better when and how to press. We are creating more chances and scoring more goals. We are improving in all aspects, which is a result of time and the confidence that comes with good results.’
In a very poor season for United, Fernandes has been outstanding and led from the front again here. His pass provided the opener for Rasmus Hojlund – who scored his first league goal since December 7 – and after Alejandro Garnacho had doubled the advantage, Fernandes produced a typically confident finish for the third.
Amorim added: ‘He is a very good professional. You can understand his frustration at times – he wants to win. As for Rasmus Hojlund, the goal was really important for him. He is doing the right things, helping the team, and he deserved a goal more than anyone.’
In a day that capped off Amorim’s best week at the helm, perhaps the only bad news for his side on Sunday was Ayden Heaven’s injury.
The 18-year-old centre back, who has featured in three of United’s last four games, was forced off with an ankle injury just six minutes into the second half, the severity of which is currently unknown.
Leicester, meanwhile, are almost certainly heading straight back to the Championship and another miserable display left boss Ruud van Nistelrooy under growing pressure.
‘We can’t and we won’t give up – we will fight till the end,’ said Ruud van Nistelrooy. ‘Until it’s impossible mathematically we keep going,’ he said. ‘We want to show that we can score goals, that we can get a clean sheet at this level and pick up points. If we believe things can change, then they can change. I will not change as a person or as a coach.’
