Huge snow blast to hit seven counties in England in ultimate days of March – see the place
The Met Office has issued a snow warning for seven English counties on the last day of March, with the North West set to be particularly hit by the wintry weather
WX Charts has predicted that snow will arrive in England on the final day of March, with the North West being particularly affected by the cold weather.
A total of seven counties can expect to be hit by the snowy conditions, according to wxcharts.com. Three counties in the North West – Cumbria, Lancashire, and Greater Manchester – are set to receive a dusting of snow. In addition, the Midlands will also experience snowfall, with Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Leicestershire expecting a covering of snow.
The snow is forecast to begin falling at midday on Monday, March 31, with a significant band of snow stretching from Cumbria down to Staffordshire, near Stoke. Early risers in Cumbria may wake up to a chilly morning, with temperatures possibly dropping to -2C by 6 am, reports the Express.
There will also be a light dusting of snow along the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire, extending into parts of Worcestershire and Leicestershire.
Looking ahead, the Met Office’s long-range forecast from March 22 to March 31 predicts a change in the weather: “The first weekend of this period is likely to be more unsettled than it has been of late.
“Wetter weather will probably continue to spread to all areas from the west or southwest, at least for a time, with some heavy rain possible, and this could be accompanied by strong winds at times.
“Into the following week, unsettled conditions will probably continue across many parts of the UK, though things could quieten down around midweek, at least temporarily.
“Temperatures are likely to be widely above average at the start of this period, and it will feel warm in any sunshine, before probably falling back and then fluctuating around average for the remainder rest of March.”
However, before this, experts have predicted a particularly warm spell to stretch across the UK. The country could see plenty of sunshine from March 23, according to forecasters, with highs of 21C – just before the predicted snow.
It comes after a balmy 20C weekend in Saharan air, which meant Britain was hotter than popular holiday destinations like Ibiza and Marbella. But Brits will soon be swapping sunbathing for scarves, as the seven day chill will bring nationwide frost and lows of -6C in Scotland.
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “Winter’s not finished with us yet. There will be a complete reversal from a very mild southerly flow to a cold northerly, with a big change in temperatures.”
The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Arctic air will plunge to Britain, with forecast models showing a risk of snow even in the South, and sharp frosts possible for all. Remember that snow is more likely in early March than early December.”
