Man Utd star set to exit Old Trafford this summer season snubs two switch choices
Christian Eriksen has confirmed he will leave Manchester United this summer – and the Denmark midfielder has already ruled out a move to Major League Soccer or his homeland
Manchester United ace Christian Eriksen has revealed he’s exiting the club come the summer, and he’s swiftly knocked off a move to MLS or a return to his homeland’s league from his list.
United’s head honchos are choosing not to extend Eriksen’s stay as Ruben Amorim gears up to revamp the squad for the upcoming season.
At 33, Eriksen is confident he’s still got plenty of top-notch football in him, so he’s counting out an American adventure or a Danish comeback.
Quizzed about his future plans, Eriksen revealed: “I don’t know yet. I haven’t made any firm decisions. Before my cardiac arrest, I played in England for years, moved to Inter, and thought I’d never return. Two years later, I was back in England, and now I’ve been here for almost four years.
“Careers don’t always follow a set plan. I don’t have a checklist of things I need to do-I’ll see what comes and what’s best for me and my family.”
The ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford maestro did make it clear, though, that hopping over to MLS or the Danish Superliga isn’t floating his boat at this juncture, reports the Mirror.
In an interview with the Danish media outlet Tipsbladet.dk, he nixed the idea of moving stateside: “We won’t travel that far.
“Not yet. It’s too early,” he added. “I still feel like I have good years left abroad. In Denmark, players often return to focus on family and end their careers that way, but I don’t feel like I’m there yet.
“It’s purely about football and where my career stands now. Honestly, I’ve spent more time abroad than in Denmark during my career, so moving home would almost feel like moving to a new country. But we’re not there yet.”
On the flip side, he’s not dismissing the idea of a return to Ajax, another one of his old stomping grounds, who showed interest in bringing him back last summer, nor is he writing off a comeback to Brentford.
When quizzed about a potential move to Amsterdam, Eriksen remarked: “I’m not closing the door on anything. I’ll see what opportunities arise and whether they fit. That was last summer-we’ll see where they stand this summer. It’s not just up to me; there has to be interest from their side too.
“Whether it’s Brentford or not, I can’t say. But my intention isn’t to stay in England.
“This situation is different from when I was a free agent after my cardiac arrest. Back then, it was about proving I could still play. Now, it’s just about waiting for the right opportunity and not making hasty decisions. If something feels right, I’ll take it.”
