Courts heard the ‘sliding door moment’ which saw murderer Nicholas Prosper decide to ditch his plan to murder students in his old school.

Evil Nicholas Prosper was jailed for a minimum of 49 years for the brutal murders of his mum, sister and brother at their family home. But Luton Crown Court was filled in with the warped desires of the 19-year-old, who wanted to kill 30 kids – some as young as four – in a sick bid to become the ‘most famous killer in history’.

However, there was one moment that the killer was spotted and stopped from spreading further blood shed, police described. Without this, it is thought the death toll could have been a lot higher.

His plot was only foiled when he was arrested by two cops who he flagged down while wearing a distinctive yellow and black tracksuit, reminiscent of Uma Thurman’s trained assassin in Kill Bill.

A senior detective described their discovery as a “sliding doors moment.” One of the arresting officers said the face he had prevented further killings was “very overwhelming”.

Sentencing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb told Prosper: “You intended to unleash disaster on the community of Luton. Your plans were intelligent, calculating and selfish. Your ambition was notoriety.”

She paid tribute to Prosper’s family, saying “their deaths are almost certain to have saved the lives of many children”, as it was a neighbour who called police after hearing the disturbance.

He was given a life sentence at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday (March 19) as Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb, told him: “Your ambition was notoriety. You wanted to be known posthumously as the world’s most famous school shooter of the 21st century.

“The lives of your own mother and younger brother and sister were to be collateral damage on the way to fulfil your ambition.”

Each victim had a gunshot to the head. Kyle had more than 100 knife wounds. Giselle had been shot in the face.

He’d left their bodies face down in a pool of blood next to a book entitled How To Kill Your Family, which he’d placed as a sickening joke.

Bella Mackie’s bestselling darkly comic novel about Grace Bernard, who set out to kill her estranged family in a variety of elaborate ways, was a number one best seller after its release in 2021.
