Tesla ploughs into pedestrians outdoors Sainsbury’s after mounting busy pavement
Seven people were injured and two victims needed treatment at a major trauma centre after the horror smash which happened on a busy London road over the weekend
A Tesla crashed into a group of pedestrians outside a supermarket on a busy street at the weekend, injuring seven people in the horror smash.
Two of the victims needed treatment at a major trauma centre after the white car ploughed onto the pavement outside a Sainsbury’s Local before colliding with a lamppost and traffic lights.
An onlooker filmed the aftermath on their phone and caught the mangled car at the junction of Mile End Road and Harford Street in Stepney Green, East London after the crash on Sunday (March 16). Bits of black debris could be seen scattered across the pavement after the accident.
The footage also showed shocked passers-by caught up in the chaos with many checking to see of those knocked to the floor were alright.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
In a statement, a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.26pm on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision in Mile End Road, E1.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene including three ambulance crews. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance in a car. The first paramedic arrived in less than seven minutes.
“We treated seven patients at the scene and took them all to hospital. Two of these patients were taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson added: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Sunday. One car was in collision with a lamppost and a traffic light. One fire engine was in attendance from Shoreditch fire station.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received their first call alerting them to the incident at 7.56 pm and the incident was over for the brigade by 8.21 pm.”
The crash comes at a difficult time for Tesla with the Elon Musk owned car company experiencing a drop in sales as protests against its owner in the US and Europe ramp up due to a dislike of Musk.
This has included a demonstration outside one Tesla dealership in London where people called for a boycott of the electric car maker.
Organisers were encouraging Tesla owners to sell their cars and for people to dump stock.
The electric car giant has already seen shares plunge since the start of the year as the firm comes under pressure from Chinese rivals amid calls for a boycott over Musk’s close ties with US President Donald Trump and far-right causes.
