Eddie Jordan was one of the great F1 characters – and he even handed his daughter a role as a grid girl.

Jordan, who died aged 76 on Thursday, had been battling an “aggressive” form of cancer. A statement said: “Eddie passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of 20th March 2025 at the age of 76.

Jordan was an icon with a love of glamorous grid girls – and his daughter once got her fair share of the limelight when she was stopped by Martin Brundle back in 2004 at the British Grand Prix.

Brundle had been chatting to Britain’s own Jenson Button.

Next up, he caught up with Rubens Barrichello, followed by a chat with Japan’s Takuma Sato. After that, he found himself in convo with the former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone and his ex Slavica Radic.

As his grid walk was winding down, with just 20 seconds on the clock, Brundle started run down the grid, telling the audience: “Ok, have I got any time left? Ok, I’ve got 20 seconds left to talk to this young lady.

“We’re going to have to jog down here. The grid girls are all beautiful, and this one is Miki Jordan, Eddie Jordan’s daughter.

“Luckily, she got her mother’s looks of course,” Brundle continued, sending a smile and a laugh Miki’s way. “Miki, how did you get this job, other than of course having your dad around? Did you apply for it?” he asked.

“I didn’t Martin, no,” Jordan’s daughter responded with a smile. “Is it cold here? At least the sun’s out,” Brundle said, prompting Jordan’s reply: “When the sun’s out, it’s okay.”

Tributes have poured in from across the racing world to Jordan. And F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali said ahead of this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Eddie Jordan.

“Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of F1 and he will be deeply missed. In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and those of the entire Formula One family are with his family and loved ones.”
