In a big blow to the Reds, the official Netherlands account shared on X: “Ryan Gravenberch has left the Oranje’s training camp this evening.”Adding concern for fans, they stated: “The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain. Take care, Ryan!”
Liverpool have since provided additional details on the incident, referring to it as a ‘fitness issue’, reports the Liverpool Echo.
An official statement from the club said: “Ryan Gravenberch has departed the Netherlands camp and will not be involved in their fixtures this week.”“The Liverpool midfielder had linked up with his country, alongside Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk, for a UEFA Nations League double-header versus Spain on Thursday and Sunday.
“The 22-year-old will be assessed upon his return to Merseyside, with the Reds back in action when they host Everton in the Premier League on April 2.”
The defeat at Wembley to Newcastle marked the end of a tough week for Arne Slot’s team, who were knocked out of the Champions League last-16 stage just five days earlier after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shoot-out.
